The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a high fire danger warning over the central and eastern parts of the North West and in places the central Free State and Municipality of Gamagara, Northern Cape.
The Weather Service has also forecast a heatwave with sustained high temperatures across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and Free State through Friday.
Weather forecast for Friday
Gauteng: Fine and hot, partly cloudy from the afternoon with isolated thunderstorms in the south. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme.
Mpumalanga: Fair and hot, partly cloudy with scattered afternoon thunderstorms in the southern Highveld. It will be cloudy along the cliffs, with drizzle.
Limpopo: Fine and hot, becoming cloudy – with drizzle overnight.
Northwest: Fine in the extreme west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot.
Free State: Fair in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated thunderstorms.
North Cape: Morning fog fields in the west, otherwise fine and hot in the north. The wind along the coast will be strong.
Western Cape: Partly cloudy and warm with patches of fog along the west coast in the morning, becoming fine in the afternoon. The wind on the coast will be light to moderate in the morning, otherwise fresh to strong in the afternoon.
Western half of Eastern Cape: Cloudy at first with light rain along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. Wind will be moderate to fresh along the coast, otherwise light to moderate in the afternoon.
Eastern half of Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy in the far north, otherwise cloudy and cool with patchy light rain along the coast and adjacent interior. Winds along the coast will be moderate, becoming moderate to fresh from the south in the late morning but light to moderate from the east in the afternoon.
