Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has been banned until 2025 for doping

Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has been banned from competing until October 2025 for a doping violation.

According to Olympics.com, he subsequently tested positive for the banned substance methandienone, a performance-enhancing steroid.

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) then banned Shivpal Singh for four years. The suspension comes into effect on October 21, 2021, meaning the 27-year-old is out until October 2025.

The Uttar Pradesh-based athlete was a silver medalist at the 2019 Asian Championships, where he set a personal best of 86.23m. He had also won the 2019 World Military Games.

Shivpal Singh is the fifth well-known Indian athlete to be caught in the doping net this year. Discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon, sprinter Dhanalakshmi Sekar and quarter miler MR Poovamma were all disqualified from competitions for violations. Tokyo Olympian Kamalpreet Kaur also failed a doping test.
