Sepang: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) welcomed Autoplay Group (Autoplay) to operate Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit (SIKC) and delight passionate go-kart fans with new facilities.
SIC Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafriman Hani said the three-year deal signed with Autoplay in mid-August will offer new facilities and a lighting rate at the circuit to extend operating hours to 2am.
“Facilities like the grandstand, the seats and the office need updating so we’re hoping Autoplay will come as they have committed to making some investment.
“My expectation is that this new operator will build another new state where they can rebrand SIKC as a meeting place or a lifestyle place that can attract more people to come here and play karting,” he said today during a press conference here.
Azhan Shafriman believes the addition will give both SIC and the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) a nudge towards passionate drivers who have the talent to compete in the National Go Kart Championship.
“Go-karting isn’t cheap where some parents wouldn’t invest. On the other hand, people like Autoplay will be developing sponsorship packages where parents can come and try,” he added.
In a further development, Azhan Shafriman said that more than 50 percent of Malaysian MotoGP tickets have been sold.
“With the ticket promotion as well as the activities that will be held at the event and the announcement of young national racer Syarifuddin Azman as a Moto3 wildcard, it has attracted more people to come,” he said.
Azhan Shafriman is confident that the SIC will reach its goal of 170,000 viewers due to his dedication and long experience as the main organizer of the championships.Bernama
