Icasa appoints acting CEO

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has appointed Nkhetheleni Norman Gidi as acting Chief Executive Officer.

Gidi will serve as CEO of the industry regulator from September 1, 2022 to November 30, 2022 or until tenure.

He takes over outgoing CEO Willington Ngwepewhose last day will be August 31st. Ngwepe has taken a stand as Chief of Staff to MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Council, I would like to offer my congratulations, support and good wishes to Adv. Gidi on his new role,” said acting Icasa chairman Charley Lewis.

“I know he can count on the cooperation and support of both ICASA staff and the wider community during this time.”

Gidi has been with Icasa for over 12 years, having joined Icasa in August 2009 as Senior Licensing Manager.

Since then, he has held various roles including general manager of licensing, executive of legal, risk and CCC, and executive of policy research and analysis.

Gidi holds a Masters of Laws from the University of the Witwatersrand and was admitted to the High Court in 2009.

The Icasa Council expressed its confidence in Gidi, adding that he has contributed significantly to the work and objectives of the Policy Research and Analysis Division and Icasa as a whole.
